This may sound weird, since I actually follow a LOT of blogs that pretty much specialize in this genre, but Paranormal Romance. Now, I'm not talking about YA books like Twilight, but the steamy kind of Mermaid meets Sexy Werewolf with a bit of Half-Demon joining in. I couldn't even handle the Anita Blake series, there was just too much sex and switching up partners for my simple (read prudish) tastes. I feel like I probably miss out on some great books, but that's part of the reason I follow bloggers who read genres that I don't normally read.

Question of the Week: Name 3 authors that you would love to sit down and spend an hour or a meal with just talking about either their books or get advice on writing from?
Okay, this is a fairly easy one. Stephen King, first and foremost. I don't even care if all he wants to talk about is baseball (a sport I dislike) or his various ache and pains. In fact I could just stop there, but you know I won't. JK Rowling, because I really want to get all the little tidbits from her head that she didn't put in the books and to ask her if she'd be willing to write a story starring me and Oliver Wood (and if she doesn't agree to do this, then perhaps I can take a page from Stephen King's book Misery and MAKE her write me a story). Thirdly, Maureen Johnson. She is hilarious, and I certainly wouldn't have to worry about the awkward silence that may arise as I stare slacked jawed and adoringly at King and Rowling, because Maureen Johnson does not do silence. And since I do like writing, and if I ever actually finish anything (like my NaNoWriMo project) then it'll be in the YA genre that Johnson writes so wonderfully for and I'm sure after spending an hour with me she'll invite me into her secret writer's club with John Green and Scott Westerfeld, among others. Right?
I LOVE the look of your site and totally agree with you about Mr. King. The Stand is one of my all time faves. I'm your newest follower and would love for you to visit me when you get a chance.

LOL! I love it! I would like to meet Stephan King too.
ReplyDeleteI've been falling a little out of love with paranormal YA recently. But mostly because the last few I've read ranged from 'okay' to 'oh my lord I despise this book.' But I totally agree with all of your choices! Maureen Johnson especially, because she's just so entertaining!
ReplyDelete1. I couldn't get through the Anita Blake series either! Although, I really did not know what I was getting into when I started the first book.
ReplyDelete2. yes, yes, yes. I am so there with you 100%. I read the question and thought "Maybe I'll participate this week", but I'd pretty much just be paraphrasing your answer.
3. LOVE the new look for your site! I always read in Google reader so I'm sure it's a late compliment, but it's awesome! Did you do it yourself or use a service???
(and 4... DO IT!! That is what I say to myself a thousand times a day to get myself to finish drafts! :) )
ReplyDeleteSteph- I wish I had mad design skills! But alas, I can't even draw a straight line in Paint Shop Pro 7. So I paid the awesome Lori at Use Your Imagination Designs to give me a total blog make over. Worth every penny, she's amazing! http://useyourimaginationdesigns.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteAnd really, I will finish my draft... someday. I did reach the 50k mark, but by that time I totally wanted to kill off all the characters, so obviously I need to finish and then do some major editing.
Hahahaha... kill them all in an explosion. Then at least you can tell people "Yeah, I have a first draft, but I'm taking some time off before I revise." HAHA! I'm going to go check out her site. Thanks for the link!

Paranormal romance isn't for everyone, it's true.
ReplyDelete(That being said...have you tried Patricia Briggs? Her characters have morals and standards, and I like that...)
Happy FF!

I agree with Stephen King, he'd be interesting. I'm afraid if I met JK Rowling, I'd do nothing but yell at her - I gave up after reading the sixth book and crying my eyes out. Yeah, I'm weird that way.
Didn't think of Chelsea Cain, she'd be interesting too.
Happy Friday
Come by my blog at Full Moon Dreaming
Great choices! I've read books from all of your choices and like them! I'm a new follower. My answers are up at Coffee Table Reviews.
ReplyDeleteJust blogging by, happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteI started the Anita Blake series and got partway into book 7 before I just lost interest. I think there's like 20 something books in that series. They were all the same damn thing over and over again!
ReplyDeleteI would love to meet Stephen King or J.K. Rowling too!
Happy Follow Friday we're your newest follower!
Jenny
I love all three of those authors! And JK was one of my picks, too. :) New follower hopping through. Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteReader's Refuge
Lots of JK picks. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteKing would creep me out! :) New follower. :) Dawn @ Read Love
ReplyDeleteI've met Stephen King, and he is straight up crazy! He has a stare of intensity that freaks me out, and that's before he even opens his mouth.
ReplyDeleteI've met JK Rowling too! She did a booksigning at the bookstore I used to work out. She is such a wonderful person. She was exhausted, but she rallied and made every fan feel special.
I'd love to meet Maureen Johnson, she is such a hoot. It would be awesome to meet her and Libba Bray at the same time. The two of them are so funny together.
I read a little paranormal now and then but it's certainly not my focus. Since last week's pie chart about where I get my books was so popular, I thought I'd share what types of books I do read. Please stop by to see which genres I don't typically read.
ReplyDeleteMr. King tops my list too! New follower!
ReplyDeleteHi. Happy Belated FF from a new follower. Interesting choices. Stephen King didn't make my top 3, but he'd definitely be in the top 5.
