Hour 8 Readathon Mini-Challenge: Drabble Time

8 hours into readathon and you all are still awake!  Congrats on that!  But if you need a little break from reading, why not stretch you imagination a bit with a drabble challenge?

Some of you might be shaking your heads wondering what in the heck a drabble is, so let me explain- rather let me rip off from Wikipedia:

A drabble is an extremely short work of fiction exactly one hundred words in length.

Your mini-challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a drabble based on a book /book series OR you can do a drabble based on your Readathon experience. Your drabble does not have to be true to the book- maybe you want Bella to pick Jacob, maybe you want a Valentine's drabble between Snape and Harry Potter (I've read a drabble or two based on that, you'd be suprised!)  It's all about being creative, but it must be a complete story in 100 words.

Okay, just joking, I'm willing to give you a 10 word leeway so make your drabble 90-110 words long, but shoot for 100!
Looking forward to reading your drabbles!   The winner (picked at random) will receive:
2 books of their choice from the Prize list, OR one of the 2 book prize pack

Drabble example:
Readathon Book Buying Binge

As I stood in line watching my total increase as the cashier scanned book after book, I felt flushed with guilt.  Didn't I already have enough books wasting away on my TBR shelves at home?  Why would I ignore those books in favor of books I just met?

But then I realized, the books that were draining my bank account deserved a home too.  Why should they be left out of the readathon fun?  The clear answer is that they shouldn't be.

I left the bookstore, both my conscience and my wallet felt lighter.

Want to know if you have 100 words?  You can use this site, just copy and paste!
You can post your drabble on your website and leave me a link in the comments, or if you want you can just post your drabble there (especially for those of you that don't have a blog :)

  5. Well, I am extremely tired but I tried to write something.

His eyes watched me intensively as I walked down the hallway. I tried to avoid his stare. I really did, but somehow I just couldn't resist it. He enjoyed watching me struggle. His lips formed the words I had heard some many times before: Come and get me... if you dare. I slowed my pace and turned around to see him. His eyes lighted up. He thought he had won, he though I would go to him. But no, I am not going to be the one who gives up. What I need from him are those three words with eight letters. I love you, do you love me?

  6. Here's mine:

As I sit on my bed, comfy under the covers, wrapped up reading my fourth book of the readathon, my cats stare at me, meowing with the full force of their meows. They want me to play, not to read. I could give in, give them a few minutes. But even if I do, I know from experience that they will be back – wanting food, wanting snacks, wanting to be let out on the balcony, wanting to be brushed until their fur shines, wanting to be pet, wanting to be cuddled – not wanting to let me read. I give in.

  11. I LOVED THIS CHALLENGE!

Sorry, just had to put that out there. I had SO much fun that I actually wrote a couple different drabbles and had a hard time picking one! But I did, so enjoy (it's kinda far down on the page, you may have to scroll a smidge):

  14. Shiver drabble:

How was Grace to know her soul mate would be a wolf, who could know such a thing? She longed for him, watched him. And when he became a man before her eyes she knew Sam,this man, this wolf, would always be hers.
It became cold & Sam was going to turn back into a wolf. He kissed her, bit her lip drawing blood & ran into the forest.
That night, wearing his shirt, looking out her window into the full moonlit yard, she took in the scent of him.
The wolves called and she jumped out the window to join her mate. Two wolves forever.

  15. I recently wrote some drabbles for Pride and Prejudice and failed to get 100 words exactly.
I try this challenge and manage it finally! Yay! Thanks for the fun challenge!

    http://bonniesbooks.blogspot.com/2010/04/updates-on-24-hour-readathon.html

The Readathon begins. First challenge: write a meme. Done! Second hour: photograph books I hope to read. Posted that. Third challenge: think about books previously read. Did that. Fourth hour: use book titles to make a sentence. Been there, got the picture to prove it. Fifth challenge: need a food photo. Googled that. Sixth challenge: animate a slideshow. Pecked at the piano making music before ditching the deal. Seventh hour: I finally read. Got to page 38, in only eight hours!

  22. Yay that was fun!

Waking up in the morning seemed easy, since there was 24 hours of fun to look forward to. I began with a cookie and cheerleading, a good way to start. Perhaps more challenging is finding a way to balance the cheerleading and reading - but I am feeling accomplished at both.

As the day continues on, I must remember that once this day is done, there won't be another quite the same for six months. I must persevere! Pick books I am excited to read, motivate others, and get others around me to read, too. I know I can do it!

This was a great mini-challenge idea! I had a TON of fun writing mine, which is based on the world of my current book, Sabriel.

  26. Love this idea! Here's mine:

Are you really going to read all day? he asked. Yes, I'm going to try. I'm supposed to read for 24 hours, but I've never made it.

Don't they know you have narcolepsy? No, I do not...you just like to say that because I fall asleep easily.

My husband doesn't understand my fascination with reading. Maybe because he doesn't like to read. This is the 4th Read-A-Thon I've done and he's starting to come around. He still doesn't understand the concept as he's always interrupting me or trying to get me to do things.

  27. Here's my Drabble

I have a son he's cute, he's fun, he's so well behaved and he loves books. You would think with all these wonderful traits I could make it through a Read-a-thon with a little understanding, wouldn't you? Alas, no, as you see he is only three years old and that age doesn't leave a lot of what we adults like to call "free time."
The time that an adult would spend lounging on the couch reading a book or say, surfing the web is spent running, vroom vrooming and generally acting exactly like Curious George, he's my curious little monkey.
