A Blog By Any Other Name Part 2

One of my original headers
One of my very first blog posts was A Blog By Any Other Name...  where I wondered about our blog names.  Have you ever regretted the one you picked?  Have you actually changed your blog name?  Here's what I wrote on that long ago post:
I love my blog name, it took me seconds to pick and it reminds me of the days I'd stay up all hours to finish a good book. In other words, it reminds me of last night.

But yesterday I got to thinking, now that I've had sometime to think about it, would I still have picked my blog name? The answer is yes, I'm very happy with it and it's honestly like being a book reading super hero- Look up in the sky! It's a nerd, it's a geek, no, it's Midnight Book Girl!

The only other blog name that I even briefly considered was Up Late With Kate. That's a title I've had in mind for awhile, but I always imagined I'd use that when the day comes that someone hands me my own radio station deejay job... not that I have any training in that area, but I like talking and music and it's one of those winning-the-lottery type fantasies.

So my question to you is... Would you change your blog name? If yes, to what? If no, was there any other name you considered?

My blog turns 3 years old later this month, but I'm still wondering, would you change the name of your blog?  What's the story behind your blog name?

  1. When I was a teenager before many bloggers were even born (LOL) or even the internet was around, my friends and I used to talk on the CB a lot. We came up w/nicknames and I chose Midnyte spelled a little differently after a song that had special meaning to me. Since then I've been Midnyte this and Midnyte that using it in several forums, groups, etc. I love the night time, because it's so mysterious and full of possibilities. I love staying up reading into the night, so my blog name Midnyte Reader was just natural.

I did google it to make sure no one else had it. I don't want to change it, but I also don't want to get confused with blogs with very similar names...or even the same names that are spelled differently. If I had known what I was in for, I may have considered another name, but ultimately it suits me and my vision.

I love Late with Kate. Maybe you should make that a feature on your blog or do a late night podcast on some books or bookish topics.

    1. This is why I love having blogger friends! I'm totally going to start a new feature!

Although I'm Midnight Book Girl on a lot of things, I'm usually Rigby9091 bc I was really discovering the Beatles when I first starting my internet addiction. Rigby for a Paul song (Eleanor Rigby) and 9091 for a John song (The One After 909). But it didn't seem bookish enough, so I didn't consider it.

    2. OMG, another thing we have in common. The Beatles are my favorite group.

  2. I like late with Kate too. You should do a feature. :) I love my blog name but I can't take credit for it. My friend came up with it. I know lots of people that hate their blog names but don't know what to do so they just keep it.

    1. I'm sold, Up Late With Kate will be a new feature! I did name my friend Bittner's blog- Abducted By Books because the name just came to me and I wanted to get her into book blogging. Luckily she loved it and has made an amazing blog with her book abductions. ;)

  3. I took months to pick my name! It was holding me back from creating my blog, because I wanted to get it right the first time. I tried out so many names, but they were either taken (or just too similar to something already out there), or people told me they'd be hard to remember, or whatever. Finally, The Towering Pile popped into my head, because it so perfectly described my to read pile. I new it was the one for me right away. :)

    1. Now that's a labor of love! What I love about a name like The Towering Pile is that it's something all of us book bloggers can immediately identify with! It's a perfect name! ;)

  4. Well you already know the story behind my book blog title so I wont retell it all now! But I would say that if it had been left up to me I would never have thought of Abducted by books on my own! But I love it! And now that I have it, I would never change it!

    1. Lol, the name might have come to me (and btw, I still vividly remember leaving the feverish voicemail message on your phone) but you have definitely owned it. I love that all your posts carry out the Abduction theme, and the design you picked out for the site is fantastic! Basically I'm saying that you've created a amazing blog, Bittner! ;)

  5. I had no idea what to call my blog - I just panicked when I was faced with the blank box on Blogger! 'Musings of a Bookshop Girl' seemed fairly to the point, but about a month later I read a rather snobby post by someone who said that 'they would never read a blog with the word 'Musings' in the title' and it's been lingering in my mind ever since. I guess maybe I'll change my name if the bookshop ever closes down... I thought of a great name in the shower the other day but I've forgotten it now! :)

    1. When I first starting blogging I followed pretty much everyone... for a day. And then I started realizing that I needed to be a bit more selective. Almost always, the first thing that attracts me to a site is the blog title. I remember following yours specifically because I loved the title. Hopefully the shop never closes, but I think you've earned that title for life! 'Musings' to me conjures up imagination and magic, which are what books are made of!

  6. I picked a horrible title when I first started cause I did it last minute and I didn't think I would actually keep doing it. When I realized I liked it I spent weeks googling names so I could have one that was different. It was very frustrating, but I love my name so it's all good!

  7. I'm sorry to say that I didn't spend all that much time on my blog's name and just filled in the blank with the first name that popped in my head. Didn't do any research at all. Like Kimberly, I had no idea I'd keep blogging or I'd definitely have put more thought into it! I've thought about changing it, but after 3 years, I think it would be too confusing. :(

  8. When I started mine three years ago, I was The Book Addict, a name carried over from my MySpace days. I entered the name, found me a nice image for the header (still the center image in my blog header now), and picked out a lovely background from The Cutest Blog on the Block. A couple of days later, one of my blogging friends informed me that there was another blog with the same name and the SAME background! What are the odds of that? So I wracked my brain. I really loved the book addict name, but how could I change it up to make it different and make it my own. I came up with The True Book Addict when this popped into my head: "I am a true book addict...not true in the sense that I'm the only "true" book addict out there, but that I am 'true' to books!" The rest is history. And no, I don't think I would change it. I just think it suits me.

  9. I would love to be a late night radio dj. how cool would that be??? And i love your blog title. My original blog title was: Books for Nerds. I think it still says that in feed???? I don't know.

  10. I wish I would have chosen a shorter name but it is me. I have had it for 4 years so I think changing it now would be a bit pointless.

  11. Whoa, 3 years old!

I chose my blog name years before I really started using it. I got it from a Decemberists song. There's a line that goes "I am a writer, a writer of fictions." I love that, so I changed to reader of fictions.

One factor that's awesome about my blog name that I didn't consider at the time is that it starts with A, which means I appear near the top alphabetically.
