Meredith and her sister are recovering from the sudden death of their father when the new boy in town moves next door. Like Corey Hart, he wears his sunglasses as night, unlike Corey Hart he never takes them off. The entire town seems to fall in lust with the new guy, but Meredith is immune to his charms. In fact, she's pretty sure there's something wrong with him when she sees what's hiding behind those sunglasses. But Meredith has a rare eye condition, so maybe she's seeing things. When her sister gets romantically involved with new boy, Meredith is determined to get to the bottom of his story.
The Cellar was a good book, on the short side, but it'd make a great Halloween or rainy night read. It's not a perfect book, you know the new boy, Adrien's, secret right off that bat. I could have done with a little more fleshing out of the characters, particularly Meredith's mom and cousins. They fell flat. The ending was good, with some unexpected surprises. I just wish it had been more fully realized.
The Cellar gets a Midnight Book Rating of 10pm. You won't need to stay up all night reading this book because it's short enough to finish before the midnight hour, and not compelling enough to sacrifice sleep to read. But it's nice and creepy for you zombie lovers out there!
