Ten by Gretchen McNeil
From Goodreads
And their doom comes swiftly.

It was supposed to be the weekend of their lives—an exclusive house party on Henry Island. Best friends Meg and Minnie each have their reasons for being there (which involve T.J., the school’s most eligible bachelor) and look forward to three glorious days of boys, booze and fun-filled luxury.

But what they expect is definitely not what they get, and what starts out as fun turns dark and twisted after the discovery of a DVD with a sinister message: Vengeance is mine.

Suddenly people are dying, and with a storm raging, the teens are cut off from the outside world. No electricity, no phones, no internet, and a ferry that isn’t scheduled to return for two days. As the deaths become more violent and the teens turn on each other, can Meg find the killer before more people die? Or is the killer closer to her than she could ever imagine?

  1. Obviously I'm not entering to win, but I will tell you that the scariest movie I've ever seen is by far The Ring. Awesome movie but that little girl crawling out of the TV scarred me for life.

    Great challenge!

  3. (Deleted and reposted because of too many typos... Darn OCD)

I don't want to enter this one; I just really want to answer the question.

Movie: The Grudge. I slept in my parents room three nights in a row after watching this. That mechanical movement totally creeps me out so I agree with Kim on The Ring, along with Gothika, The Exorcism of Emily Rose and upcoming Sinister. I love scary movies but that sort of movement haunts me severely.

Book: I'm 1/3 of the way into 'Salem's Lot and I am so freaking jumpy while reading it. I have a bunch of post-it reminders on the wall by my desk and one fell off this morning while reading. I about jumped out of my skin it scared me so bad. Of course, it coincided with a particularly creepy scene so that didn't help. Anything by Ted Dekker (Adam, specifically) does that to me, too.

And here, I claim that I am not so easily scared *looks at long list*. Hmph.

  4. Excellent Challenge, friend. I'm going to have to think about this one. The Exorcism of Emily Rose gets the top spot... love it!

  5. In no particular order I would say: Exorcism of Emily Rose, Gremlins, Halloween, Criminal Minds, Wolfman, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (movie not tv)
    Jaws, Fright Night (2011), Identity,
and Relentless. And those are just the answers that I could think of off the top of my head so there might be others.
I did always like the first Children of the Corn but I haven't rewatched it in forever!

But I already have a copy of TEN waiting for me to read it so it is okay if you don't include me in your giveaway!

  6. The one movie that scared me the most growing up was Poltergeist. That's probably why it's one of my favorites movies ever. :)

  7. Not entering to win (unless you'll think about shipping to the UK), but Ten looks really cool!
Er, the only things that have really creeped me out are Unwind by Neal Schusterman and Ring by Koji Suzuki.
    What's your favourite scary things?

  8. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre scared the crap out of me and kind of made me stop watching scary movies all together. I hate movies based on true stories, lol.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  9. Somebody already said Texas Chainsaw Massacre - but same for me. And The Hills Have Eyes! But - speaking about book adaptations, I'm going with The Exorcist. My list of 10 @ my blog - 10 Must See Psychological Thrillers & Horror Book To Movie Adaptations (A Month of Monstrosities).

  10. I can't do scary movies at all. I can read scary books and sleep like a baby, but scary movies? No way no how. I saw What Lies Beneath when I was in middle school and didn't sleep for over a week and was terrified of the shower.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  15. Not many movies scare me, but two did were "Wait Until Dark" with Audrey Hepburn, and "Rope" from Alfred Hitchcock.
The scariest book I've read lately is Dark Eden, by Patrick Carman. Actually, all his books have been scary.

  19. 1. My number one will forever and always be Chucky. I know, it's fake and it's just a doll, but since I was like 5 I have not been able to go near a Chucky doll or even hear the voices on the TV. My cousins taunted me with it and I became traumatized and still am today, lol
    2. Scream--I can watch it now, but when I was young I couldn't even look at him.
    3. The Ring--Still haven't watched the movie until today, but have seen parts of it. Yeah...Never watching it lool
    4. Gothika--That movie was just weird as hell, lol
    5. Freddy Kruger--The little boy who played in the movie was so cute, but Freddy completely freaked me out! I still sing the song, though..."1,2 Freddy's coming for you; 3,4 you better lock your door; 5,6 grab your crucifix, 7,8 gonna stay awake, 9,10 never sleep again" Ahh, gives me the chills! Especially when you sing it in a creepy voice like the little girls do in the movie!
    6. The Exorcist--ALL EXORCIST movies. They freak me the hell out and don't let me sleep at night, but I still always want to watch them! It's ridiculous, lol.
    7. The Amityville Horror--Bahh, Ryan Reynolds you are so sexy, but that movie...He's so freaky in that movie, you don't even think it's really Ryan Reynolds
    8. Pet Cemetery--This movie used to come on EVERY Halloween when I was younger and I would ALWAYS watch it! The little boy was so cute but so frightening at the same time! lol

That's about it really. There are probably more, but I can't think of them. I can read scary books and be freaked out at all, but movies...they're different, lol. Thanks for the giveaway

  20. I don't think I can come up with 10 but my top one would have to be "It" by Stephen King. "They all float down here"! Yikes!
